By means of theexternal sense, objects are represented to the self, as existing without us, in space.
This is the "location" of properties such as shape, dimension, and size.
The internal sense, which is how the mind observes itself, gives no intuition of the soul as an object, however there is still a definite form that represents our internal state, making it into an object of contemplation for the internal sense.
Of time, we can not have anyexternalimmediate representation, anymore than we can have an immediate internal representation of space.
This forces us to ask:what then, areTime and Space?
Space is not a conception which has been derived from external experiences- in order for sensation to relate to something without me, and in order for me to represent things as being in separate places (even if one of those things is me), space is requisite.
Thus, not only is space derived from external experiences, but rather, space is a requirement for any external experience to represent an object via intuition by way of sensibility.
Thusly, space is an a priori representation, which lays the foundation for external intuitions.
