Dimensions

The dimension of some mathematical space (such as Vector Space), is informally defined as the minimal number of coordinates to describe some point that exists within the space.

Can also be thought of as some of the Degrees of freedom a some physical system, though regard the difference between the mathematical representation of the physical system and the system as it exists, or is idealized.

Degrees of freedom

The set of all possible states are referred to ass the Phase Space of the system, and the degrees of freedom of the system are the Dimensions of the phase space.
